Nine Decades and a Forced Running Partner

So my grandpa turned 90 today.

I feel so lucky to have been born into a family with amazing genes. My dad decided to throw a surprise party for him. At 3pm, of course. I mean. He is 90.

This man is amazing. He has survived cancer, open heart surgery, and a stroke. And now he survived his surprise party.

His advice for living that long was, "I'm keeping it a secret.  Take some cake!"

He spent the afternoon cracking us up.

Please notice I am in gym clothes. I don't believe in real people's clothing, so I immediately change out of them into workout clothing after work. I was going to the gym, I promise.

Yep. I love my family. That's my dad pretending like he's getting stabbed by my grandma's hat. My grandpa has no idea what's going on behind him. I told my dad this picture was making it on the blog. I don't think he believed me.

On a completely different note, I have forced my boyfriend into being my running partner. I miss my real running partner so badly, but she is due with a baby next month, so she will soon be by my side again. We headed to the gym immediately after the party.

He runs on the treadmill next to me. It's much better than when we run together outside because I can't leave him in the dust.

We lifted afterward, of course. Here's a fun fact about me: I have a thing with head injuries. One day I will dedicate a post to the time I ran into the Jack-in-the-Box window, but today I smacked my head on the weight rack. I have absolutely no idea how I do these things. I have a good knot on my head now, but I kept right on picking up heavy things like nothing happened.

This is an old picture from the time I slammed my head into a theater seat.  I seriously have a problem.

Tomorrow begins the light at the end of the tunnel. While I am seriously sad about having to leave again, Tuesdays are supposed to be half days of student teaching and now I will no longer be getting paid, so I can go to the gym in between work and school. No more 4:30 wake ups on Tuesday!

I hope everyone had a marvelous Monday!

  1. Your grandpa seems awesome! I love hearty old people!

Also, the best running partners are the ones you force into it, because you get to be their cheerleader!

  2. Happy Birthday to your grandpa!

When you come to Colorado, I'll be your running partner. And then we'll bang our heads on things (I always run into things, too), and then lie on my basement floor laughing instead of lifting. Yes, good plan.

  3. A few things:
    1. Did I miss something? Is your first student teaching session over with??
    2. I wish I could force the husband into running with me.
    3. I will be super jealous if you go to Colorado and run with cool bloggers and then don't come to NY.
    4. I rarely get jealous.
    5. Happy 90th to your Grandpa!
    6. This is all.

Hope you enjoyed that :) oxoxox

  4. I thought your dad was imitating your brother in that one picture. They really are father like son.
